In 2012, WSA decided to revamp our awards to incorporate new categories in order to honour more players. The awards are voted on by an independent panel except for the tournament of the year which is voted on by the players. 

Now the awards incorporate the following categories:

'Heather McKay' Player of the Year - The award has been named in honour of Heather McKay, possibly the greatest player ever. She won 16 British Open titles between 1962-1977 and capturing the inaugural women's World Open title in 1979. She remained undefeated during this entire period. This award goes to a player who has had great success on the tour throughout the whole year. 

'Vicki Cardwell' Comeback Player of the Year - The award has been named in honour of Vicki Cardwell, a former world number one, who also won the World Open in 1983 as well as four British Open titles between 1980-1983. Vicki came back after becoming a mother and returned to the top of the game. This award goes to a player who has made a successful return to the tour after a long period out of the game, 

Breakthrough Player of the Year - This award goes to a player who has made a significant breakthrough on the tour, either a new player making great ranking leaps or a more experienced player who's improvement has seen them 

Platinum Service Award - This award goes to a player who goes above and beyond to give back to the tour on and off the court. 

Sportsmanship Award - This award goes to a player who shows great fairness, respect and ethics on and off the court. 

Tournament of the Year - This award is voted on solely by the WSA players and reflects their favourite tournament based on what is important to them in making a successful event.
