WSA World Tour

Biography

Nicol has been no.1 in the world for over eight years now, and in unrelenting form.  Since first winning highest accolade in women’s squash, the World Open, back in 2005, she has extended a high level of dominance over the WSA World Tour, winning the title a further six times. 

The 2010-11 season was a particular highlight in her career, as the Malaysian won all-but-one of the WSA World Series events, just falling short of a clean sweep at the hand of Kasey Brown in the Delaware Investments US Open in October.  She became the first ever winner of the WSA World Series Finals in January 2012, alongside the PSA event at Queen’s Club, London. 

Before that, the WSA world No1 played out an undefeated year in 2010, and was forced to a full five-games only once in twelve months.  She also saw successes on a national level, claiming Gold in the Commonwealth Games and later helping the Malaysian team to reach a best ever placing of 3^rd in the Women’s World Team Championships in New Zealand.

2013 saw normal service disrupted however, after succumbing to her second career loss to Raneem El Weleily in February’s Cleveland Classic. This was followed by a surprise semi final defeat at the hands of Laura Massaro in the CIMB KL Open semi finals in March and then Massaro stunned David once again in the Allam British Open final in May 2013.

David responded like the champion she is in September at the CIMB Malaysian Open, beating Raneem El Weleily in the final, revenge for the 2012 final. She went on to win the last four events of the year, the Carol Weymuller Open, US Open, China Open and winning her 8^th Hong Kong Open title in a row.

David started 2014 by collecting her very first Tournament of Champions title and followed this up by reclaiming the Cleveland Classic title for her 73^rd title. At the World Championship in her hometown of Penang going for her 8^th World title, the world number one was stunned in the semi-final by World Junior Champion Nour El Sherbini. She regrouped and as she does every time, rebounded in style to reclaim the British Open title, beating Laura Massaro in the final to win her 74th title.
